The 101 was built for investigations where access rules: interior courtyards, working plants, slopes and narrow streets. It runs on a self-propelled tracked carriage, so it walks in where a truck cannot go.
The hammer unit is independent of the mast, which means you can test with greater stability and still follow the standard penetration test procedure.
